Spring is one of the most colorful of seasons where everything comes to LIFE! Colors abound in the landscape creating conversations and song! Join artist Hélène Farrar as she leads you in an ‘Introduction to Encaustics – The Metaphors of Spring,’ painting in the ancient medium of encaustic. Students will explore this hot molten wax painting medium where they will drip, pour, drag, layer, heat, and scrape! In developing a rich variety of textures, we will observe and look at flowers and the spring landscape for form, gesture, and color. Class time will be divided between demonstrations and individual work time. Proper studio ventilation, wax safety, and how to “finish” artworks in terms of framing and care will also be touched upon. Students will leave with multiple finished pieces and be recharged by this dynamic workshop. Most materials will be provided, but there is a supply list of things that would be handy to bring.
